Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
Incident Type: Battery

Address: 202 S. Park St. (Meriter Hospital)
Arrested: Jason T. Bender M/W 33 years old
-charged with Battery to Police Officer, multiple counts of Battery, multiple counts of Disorderly Conduct
Victim: 6 different people injured including the police officer. No severe injuries. One security guard did get bit by Bender which broke the skin.
Details: Bender was admitted to Meriter hospital recently for undisclosed reasons, he then left against medical advice. He then went to his car which was parked nearby and consumed alcohol. He returned to the 8th floor of Meriter carrying a 3' long heavy metal pole.
He then began striking counters with the pole and creating a disturbance. Meriter security responded and Bender struck two of them with the metal pole. He also bit one of them in the head which broke the skin. Several other hospital staff responded and eventually Bender was taken to the ground and handcuffed.
After he was let up, he again began to struggle and kicked a nurse in the stomach. Four Madison Police Officers responded. During the struggle he bit one of the officers in the hand which did not break the skin. Eventually Bender was secured and transported to the Dane County Jail.
There were two Meriter security guards, two Meriter nurses, one social worker and one police officer who all received minor injuries in this melee.
