Press Release from the Lafayette Co. Sheriff's Office:

Yesterday at approx. 5:30 p.m. the Lafayette Co. Sheriff's Dispatch Center received a cellular 911 telephone call reporting a crash in the 24000 block of State Highway 81 in Elk Grove Township. The Belmont Ambulance, Belmont Fire Department and Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that an Amish buggy was moving west on Highway 81 when it was struck in the rear by a pickup truck that was also being operating west on Highway 81.

The operator of the Amish buggy, Levi K. Kinsinger, age 20 of rural Platteville, WI was ejected from the buggy and was very seriously injured in the crash. Mr. Kinsinger was first taken to Southwest Health Center in Platteville and later was transferred to a Madison Hospital. The driver of the westbound pickup truck, Eugene C. Jenson, age 29, of Darlington, WI reported no physical injuries. Today we have been notified that Mr. Kinsinger died this morning from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The investigation indicates that the lights on the buggy were operating at the time of the crash. The horse pulling the buggy was euthanized by a veterinarian due to being severely injured. The pickup truck driven by Mr. Jenson received severe front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

This investigation is continuing. The matter will be referred to the Lafayette County District Attorney's Office for review and possible charging decisions.
