Man Knocks Down Security Guard After Stealing

POSTED: Tuesday, February 26, 2013 --- 2:24 p.m.

From Madison Police:

A 28-year old Sun Prairie woman was coming out East Towne's Boston Store Sunday afternoon when she saw the victim get knocked down by a much younger man. He was now running through the parking lot. The mother thought she had just witnessed a mugging and called the crime into 911. The witness had her 4-year old and 10-year old children with her, and one walked over and picked up a two-way radio and a security badge. It was at this point the mother realized this was not a mugging but another crime. She couldn't ask the 68-year old victim about what just happened, because he was outside giving chase. An MPD officer was on scene quickly and joined in the foot pursuit. The thief evaded capture. The victim was identified as a Boston Store loss prevention officer. He was pushed down while trying to stop the shoplifter. During the fall, he struck his elbow on concrete, and he was complaining of soreness.

Suspect: Male, black, late teens to early 20's, wearing a black coat with a brown fur lined hood, baggy dark jeans and a knit hat.

Victim Male, age 68, a Boston Store loss prevention officer.
