Man Rescued after Car Goes Through Ice on Beaver Dam Lake

Posted Sunday, January 20, 2013 --- 6:41 p.m.

Press Release from the Dodge Co. Sheriff's Department:

At about 3:12 PM, Dodge County Sheriff Communications received a 911 call reporting a car that had gone through the ice on Beaver Dam Lake. About 3 minutes later, the driver of the car called 911 as well. Kyle Daniels, 19 years old, rural Beaver Dam, was driving his car on the ice when it broke through and submerged up to the roof. Daniels was standing on the roof when he called. Daniels was able to get away from the vehicle and walk to the Beaver Dam Fire Dept. hovercraft that was searching for him and his vehicle. He was brought to shore by the hovercraft and did not request medical treatment.

Open water was reported in an area not far from where the car broke through. This area is generally described as being near the group of islands north of Airport Rd on the southwest portion of the lake. Recent strong winds and a relatively mild winter have created ice conditions that vary on area lakes as well as open water areas and heaves. Motor vehicle traffic is discouraged on the ice and extreme caution should be used, especially during darkness.
