Man arrested in downtown Madison after attempting to steal bike

According to the Madison Police Department, a man was arrested after attempting to pedal away on a bike from a downtown Madison shop.

The Madison Police Department said 51-year-old Kip Kulman told the Budget Bicycles clerk he was browsing Saturday, January 18, at 4:30 p.m.

The 32-year-old clerk told police Kulman grabbed a $590 Raleigh bicycle and headed out of the shop. Police said the salesman was able to pull the bike out from beneath Kulman as he tried to peddle away.

An officer spotted Kulman walking on a bike path near Orchard Street and arrested him on suspicion of retail theft.
