On January 4th, 2011, c The preliminary autopsy results confirmed the Detective Bureau’s findings that this incident was accidental in nature. The fatal shot accidentally occurred as the father and son were exchanging the father’s rifle.

TOWN OF NEWARK, Wis. (AP) — Rock County authorities say a 30-year-old man has died of a gunshot wound in an apparent hunting accident.
The sheriff's office says it received a report of the shooting Friday about 12:30 p.m.
Deputies say someone reported an 11-year-old boy at the door requesting help for his father who had been shot nearby.
Emergency responders found the Beloit-area man in a partially wooded area with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man's name hasn't been released.
The sheriff's office is investigating. It says preliminary information suggests the shooting was "a tragic hunting accident."

On December 24, 2010 at 12:24PM, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a resident that a deer hunter had been shot in the 12000 block of Brandherm Road in Newark Township. The citizen reported that a young (11 year old) boy had come to the resident’s door requesting help for his father who had been shot in a nearby partially-wooded area. Deputies responded to the scene along with Orfordville Fire and EMS, as well as, Beloit paramedics.
At the scene, deputies located a 30-year-old male subject from the Beloit area, who had a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Deputies initiated CPR and continued until relieved by medical personnel. The injured man was transported to the Beloit Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by the Coroner’s office.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office detective bureau is conducting a full investigation into this incident; however, preliminary information developed at the scene would seem to indicate that this was a tragic hunting accident.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
