UPDATE: MedFlight Called To Garbage Truck Crash

UPDATED: Monday, January 7, 2013 --- 3:05 p.m.

From the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu involved in Saturday’s crash in the town of Dunkirk is Brooke S. Wedeward, age 21 of Stoughton. The initial investigation into the cause points to obstructed visibility. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this crash.

Wedeward struck Mark A. Friend, age 36 of Ixonia, as he was working to empty trash bins into the back of a garbage truck, pinning him between Wedeward’s vehicle and the garbage truck. Friend was transported by Med Flight to UW Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Brooke, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained only minor injuries and was treated and released from Stoughton Hospital.

This remains an open investigation with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
