The Midwest Horse Fair is proving to be an event for the whole family, already drawing in thousands to the Alliant Energy Center.
It's been a staple in Madison for the past 35 years. "People look forward to coming to the Midwest Horse Fair every year and we love coming to Madison," said Rhanda Reese, General Manager of the Midwest Horse Fair. 50,000 people are expected to attend through Sunday, enjoying all that the event has to offer, getting a few souvenirs along the way. A young girl adds "I bought a Belgium and I am a horse rider. I usually ride in shows all the time."
And who could forget about the food! From the ever so crispy butterfly fries.. "It's really good- wow!" To the comfort of an American staple, mini donuts! When you're done devouring all the flavorful choices of food- try a pony ride, or learn about the tallest donkey alive. "We realized by talking to a friend of ours that the world record is 63 inches, and Romulus is taller than that," said owner Phil Yellott. It was a fluke that Phil even bought the donkeys. He adds, "we saw them on craigslist and we wanted to protect our goats." But now he says, he's never looking back. He's fallen head over heels for his new pets. He said, "horses will run away donkeys will attack. Would you attack Rom? You're so sweet."
