UPDATE: Weather stops plan crash recovery, Sun Prairie man dead

UPDATED Sunday, January 12, 2014 --- 7:26 a.m.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Bad weather Saturday morning turned back a recovery team attempting to reach the wreckage of a small airplane that went down in the central Idaho mountains in early December.

Valley County Sheriff Patti Bolen says a meeting is planned Monday to consider options for reaching the remote crash site and removing the bodies of the five family members who had been on board.

Officials suspended the search for the aircraft in mid-December, but an intensive search by family and friends located the badly damaged aircraft Friday.

Fifty-one-year-old Dale Smith, a software executive from San Jose, Calif., was flying the single-engine Beech Bonanza from eastern Oregon to Butte, Mont., when he reported engine trouble.

Smith's son and his wife, along with Smith's daughter and her fiance, Jonathon Norton, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, were on board.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- The Valley County sheriff's office says the wreckage of a small plane carrying five people that vanished in the central Idaho mountains on Dec. 1 has been found. There were no survivors.

Sheriff's Lt. Dan Smith said Friday that an incoming storm may delay recovery efforts.

The single-engine plane was piloted by 51-year-old Dale Smith, a software executive from San Jose, Calif. Also on board were the elder Smith's son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Sheree Smith, and daughter Amber Smith with her fiance, Jonathon Norton.

The plane was flying from eastern Oregon to Montana on Dec. 1 when it disappeared in mountains 150 miles northeast of Boise.

Authorities had suspended the search for the plane in mid-December.
