Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A trial is set to begin today in Milwaukee for one of Governor Scott Walker's former associates who's charged with embezzling about $42,000 from veterans' groups. Kevin Kavanaugh is charged with theft and fraud. He was appointed to the Milwaukee County Veterans Service Commission by Walker when the governor was the county executive.

KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) -- Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan took a break from preparing for this week's debate by spending time with his family in Wisconsin yesterday. Ryan, his wife and their three kids went to Sturtevant yesterday to pick pumpkins and eat caramel apples. He and his wife also stopped by a Kenosha deli to buy spices for venison sausage.

WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Wausau fire officials say a west side apartment complex is a total loss after last night's fire. Residents of the Tamarack Heights complex got out safely, but several tenants lost everything in the blaze.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Halloween lovers will get a chance to learn about the holiday's origins next weekend at a historical stagecoach inn in southeastern Wisconsin. Wade House is offering an autumn celebration on Saturday and Sunday, which includes 19th-century games, hot cider, pumpkin carving and scary stories.
