Monday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Monday, November 5, 2012 --- 4:50 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- It's football Sunday, so why not a quick stop outside the home of the Green Bay Packers before a hectic day of campaigning for Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan? The Wisconsin congressman and his family joined up with a tailgating party across the street from Lambeau Field. Two of running mate Mitt Romney's five sons, Josh and Matt, were there along with four of Romney's grandchildren. Ryan is next heading to Ohio, Minnesota and Colorado for campaign rallies today.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A 66-year-old Milwaukee man has been found dead in a house fire. Milwaukee police said yesterday that the fire happened about 10:40 p.m. Saturday in a house on the 2100 block of East Hillcrest. Police say Donald Webber was found dead in his first-floor bedroom.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (AP) -- A coal fire at a We Energies power plant on Milwaukee County Grounds in Wauwatosa is under control but expected to burn for several days. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the blaze was reported about 7:15 a.m. yesterday and was confined to a 25-foot-hopper on the building's sixth floor. No one was injured.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin has comprehensive laws about how police are supposed to respond to domestic violence cases. But an investigation by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has found no one has authority to ensure police departments are responding as they should. State statutes say local police must arrest domestic violence suspects, even if a victim doesn't cooperate.
