As temperatures drop, concerns in the Truax neighborhood and surrounding areas rise over the location of a county owned building on Wright Street, after it has been recently proposed as the location for a Dane county day homeless shelter during the winter.
Some residents attending a meeting Wednesday night said the shelter is just too close for comfort.
Crowding issues, public intoxication, and disregard for the rules are just a few of the issues neighbors believe a shelter could bring.
For the east side's community center, the biggest concern is child safety.
Representatives from Porchlight say people's fears are based on misconceptions.
It isn't the county's only proposed site. The centrally located building on East Washington Avenue could be another option. The decision will be based on the response the county receives from residents at future meetings.
