North Freedom Man Arrested for 8th OWI

Posted: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 --- 8:10p.m.

From Sauk County Sheriff's website:

On October 12, 2011 at approximately 1:35am a Sauk County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle speeding on Linn Street in the area of Connie Road in the Village of West Baraboo. As the Deputy caught up to the vehicle and prepared to make the stop, he observed the vehicle to be operating left of centerline and drifting all over the road.

The Deputy stopped the vehicle and determined that the operator had been drinking. The operator submitted to field sobriety tests and failed. As a result, Shane E. Krayer, age 54, of North Freedom, WI, was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated 8th Offense, Speeding, and Operating After Suspension 3rd Offense. It should also be noted that Krayer has a previous OWI 8th offense still pending in Sauk County from December 2010. Krayer was incarcerated in the Sauk County Jail.

New Law 7/1. He will get minimum 3 yrs prison prob more that he has one pending, but he might be sentenced for both at the same time(concurrent). SAUK is a joke for DUI's (numerous sheriff deputies got DUI's this year up there) The new jail in Baraboo has to be paid for so there relying on DUI fines for revenue. Chip Meister (Sheriff) is pro-electronic monitoring (jail release) so offenders can re-offend and keep the courts/deputies busy and more revenue all around.

Listen, this is Wisconsin, and to those who call it home many sacred traditions live on and shall be passed to subsequent generations. These institutions are untouchable, held to the highest order, and are immune, for the most part, from excessive legal scrutiny. These Wisconsin societal mores' include Packer Sunday, Deer hunting, The Badgers, Card playing, The Tavern League and Drinking and Driving. Nothing will ever change this way of life, neither punishment nor reward.

It says right in the article "Operating After Suspension 3rd Offense", this man doesn't have a license and doesn't care. He will continue to drink and drive until he is thrown in jail or kills someone. Why can't we change our laws so that driving drunk is the equivalent of possessing a deadly weapon?

I'm sure the guy doesn't have his license people. That doesn't stop most people who are revoked.

Obviously a man with 8 DUI's has nothing left to forfeit. He doesn't care about fines...he can't/won't pay them, insurance rates...he doesn't have auto insurance. Driving is so ingrained in our society that 'suspending' a driver's license means and does nothing. They'll have another citation he won't pay added to his rap sheet if they catch him driving again. So how do we punish someone who has nothing to lose and doesn't care?

He should not be allowed to own a vehicle, perhaps gaage should be given names for people they could nosell to. These people never learn .
