"Madison is known for having a great comedy scene," said The Comedy Club on State's general manager, Eve Paras.
Dozens fill The Comedy Club on State Street every weekend.
"People are very supportive of comedy," said Paras. "We've had people drive many hours to come for a comedian they really love."
This weekend they came out for headliner Michael Palascak.
"I think of things in my life that make me feel an emotion about something or weird situation, and I just sort of try to tell them on stage in a way that is true to who I am and makes people laugh," said Palascak.
Based in L.A., Michael's been doing comedy for 10 years. He performed on Jay Leno, David Letterman, even had his own Comedy Central half hour.
"We keep on raising the bar on our talent every year," said Paras.
But Michael started like any comedian does.
"I did open mics every night," said Palascak.
The same stage he's performing on tonight is where local comedians tell their first jokes.
"The openers are local. That's where everyone starts, so we get to be with them from the beginning on their way up," said Paras.
Michael was the feature in Madison just a few years ago.
"I love doing comedy in Madison," said Palascak.
"It's great to see him moving up," said Paras.
"It's a fun feeling. It's like being on a roller coaster or jumping out of a plane, like you don't know what's going to happen, I hope they like this," said Palascak.
The Comedy Club on State has open mic night every Wednesday starting at 9:00.
