Officers from the Fitchburg Police Department attempted to make contact with a suspicious vehicle on the 2900 block of Fish Hatchery Rd. It happened around 1:36 a.m. at the Mobil Gas Station.

An officer directed a passenger to exit the vehicle. The passenger complied but the driver put the vehicle into reverse and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

The suspect’s vehicle then struck the officer and the passenger, knocking them to the ground. The suspect then rammed a squad car twice.

The suspect then fled from the scene. A short time later another Fitchburg officer located the suspect traveling westbound, on the frontage road of Hwy 12 and initiated a pursuit with the suspect. The pursuit continued through the City of Madison and ended in the City of Middleton.

The suspect ended up crashing the vehicle on Gammon Rd and Fortune Rd. The suspect had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transport to a local hospital. The suspect is listed with serious injuries, but non-life threating.

The officer and passenger that were struck by the vehicle were treated and released from a local hospital. Officers from the City of Madison, Town of Madison and City of Middleton Police Departments assisted with the investigation.

Police arrested Shannon Patterson, age 28, from Janesville.
Patterson is charged with two counts of Reckless Endangerment, OWI causing injury, Fleeing an Officer, Parole Violation, Obstructing an Officer, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
