Press Release from the Rock Co. Sheriff's Office:

On Sunday, 10-14-12 approximately 11:22am, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office was advised by Waukesha County authorities that they were investigating a suicidal check/ welfare incident where a male was operating a silver colored Chevrolet Malibu. Waukesha County had located the subject with the help of his cell phone company, as being near the Hwy 11/14 Rock and Walworth County line. Walworth County authorities also reported numerous citizen complaints of this vehicle driving recklessly and dangerously as it traveled through Walworth County.

Rock County Deputies responded to the area and observed the vehicle all over the road west bound on Hwy 11/14 just west of Emerald Grove. Two Rock County Deputy Units turned and attempted to stop the silver Malibu. The driver of the Malibu increased his speed to around 90mph and was swerving and traveling in the East bound opposite lane of traffic. Before Deputies could make attempts to remove the vehicle from the roadway, the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve at Hwy 11 and County Highway O. The Silver Malibu traveled across the grass median and struck an oncoming vehicle head on. The Silver Malibu came to rest upright in the east bound lanes of traffic while the struck vehicle came to rest on its roof in the nearby gravel shoulder.

The driver and only occupant of the Silver Malibu, David Hendrickson, 51, of Waukesha, WI., was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Mercy Hospital in Janesville with non life-threatening injuries. The vehicle that Hendrickson struck, a Black Jeep Compass, was driven by Brandon James, 28, of Clinton WI. James was assisted out of his vehicle and checked on by Janesville Fire Department personnel. James received a shoulder injury but was not transported by EMS.

David Hendrickson was met at the hospital and arrested for Injury by Operating while intoxicated (1st), and fleeing police officers. He will also be evaluated by Rock County Crisis Intervention for the original check welfare which originated in Waukesha County. No future press releases are anticipated.
