An increase in residential burglaries has Madison Police officers going door to door to issue warnings.
Friday night community policing officers from both the south and central districts conducted what they're calling a burglary prevention operation in the Regent and Monroe Street area.
The officers went door to door to warn people about the uptick in burglaries over the past few weeks.
Sergent Shawn Engel said, "We're just trying to do what we can to try to prevent some of that and try to educate."
Officers are targeting the student populated areas, saying they're the most common victims.
Engel says, "Typically what they are targeting are the electronics, the laptops, the notebooks, stuff they can take easily and get rid of easily."
Police say it's pretty common to see an increase in burglaries in this area when students return to school.
