Police arrest Madison man after theft

Posted: Monday, August 11, 2014 --- 7:45 p.m.

From Madison Police:

Officers were sent earlier this afternoon to the East Towne Pet Clinic for a report of a person who came into the store, and took money out of the cash drawer.

When confronted by an employee, the subject returned all but a small amount of money and fled the business.

Officers responded and a canine track was executed, but the suspect was not located at that time. At approximately 6pm, this evening, a person matching the suspect's description was again seen in the East Towne Mall area.

As officers approached, they were able to track the suspect past various businesses and ultimately to the roof of the Chili's restaurant where the suspect had climbed a ladder propped against the building.

Officers made contact with the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Roy Mitchell of Madison, on the roof where he was ultimately arrested.

A Madison Fire Department ladder truck was called to assist in bringing Mitchell safely to the ground. Mitchell was charged with Misdemeanor Theft, Resisting/Obstructing and a Probation Hold.
