VIDEO REPORT: Pumpkin Crop Thriving Despite Drought

Posted: Saturday, September 22, 2012 --- 5:19p.m.

Despite concerns over this summer's drought, most pumpkin farms are doing surprisingly well.

The dry conditions this summer did take a toll on some farms, forcing them to close their doors for the season, but others are thriving.

For Meyer's Farm Market in Milton, the rain came at just the right time. Bryan Meyer says, "When they were starting to blossom, that critical time, the very few rains we did get were absolutely a perfect time for us."

There may be a few less pumpkins this season, but that gives them more room to grow, making them even bigger than ever. Meyer says this season's pumpkins are probably at least 20% larger than average.
