Rock Co. Man Injured in Fire; Barn a Total Loss

On Thursday, January 17, 2013 approximately 1:15pm, Edgerton Fire Department responded with Rock County Sheriff’s Office to a building fire at 8201 N. County H. this is a private farm in Fulton Township. Deputies arrived to find a barn fully engulfed in flames.

Investigation showed that the property owner, Rick E. Thompson, 54, of 8208 N. Cty H was working on the fuel system of a vehicle. The fuel ignited with a work light and started a fire around the vehicle. Thompson was able to escape but not before being burned on his legs and arms. He was attended to by Edgerton EMS and Janesville Paramedics. Med Flight Helicopter was also used to assist the EMS crews but Thompson was transported by ambulance. Evansville, Milton and Cambridge Fire Departments were also on scene assisting to extinguish the fire.

Edgerton Fire Command was in charge of the scene and will stay on scene until the structure is safe. It appears that the barn structure was a total loss. County H between West County M and Gibbs Lake Rd will be closed until early evening to assist Fire crews in clean up the scene.
