JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan enters the home stretch of his congressional race with more than four times the cash balance of his Democratic challenger.

The Janesville Republican reports having just under $3 million in the bank as of last week. Figures posted on the Federal Election Commission website show he raised a total of $4.9 million from January to Oct. 17.

His Democratic opponent is former Kenosha County board member Rob Zerban. His campaign says over the same nearly-10-month period he raised $2.1 million. As of last week he had $666,000 cash on hand, along with $100,000 in debt.

Ryan is running for re-election to his congressional seat even as he's a vice presidential contender. If he wins both races he'll have to give up his House seat.
