SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (AP) — Two 13-year-old Wisconsin boys are charged with using a hatchet and hammer to kill one boy's great-grandmother while stealing jewelry and a car from her home. Both teens appeared yesterday in Sheboygan County court and were ordered held on $1 million bond each on charges of party to first-degree intentional homicide.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Sun Prairie woman will serve a year in prison for a 2010 fatal crash that happened after she was texting while driving. Dane County Circuit Judge Stephen Ehlke yesterday rejected recommendations of probation for 21-year-old Stephanie Kanoff.

NEW YORK (AP) — A former stage actress who starred in the adaptation of the groundbreaking novel "Strange Fruit" on Broadway and later became an educator and a children's book author has died. Dorothy Carter was 94. Family friend Mary Zaslofsky says Carter died September 14th in New York after battling bladder cancer. She taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and became the first female African-American professor at Bank Street College of Education in New York City.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Lawmakers from Michigan and Wisconsin are calling for Congress to have stronger oversight of the anti-doping agency that accused seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong of using performance-enhancing drugs. A bill filed yesterday by U.S. Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner and John Conyers would require the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to provide accused athletes with specific written notification of allegations of doping.
