Sauk Co. K-9 Units Help Find Missing Man

Posted Tuesday, February 5, 2013 --- 1:41 p.m.

Press Release from the Baraboo Police Department:

On Feb. 4, 2012 at approx. 7:45pm Officers were called to a residence located on Summit Street in the City of Baraboo. Officers met with the mother of a 41-year-old mentally challenged male. The mother reported the male had departed the residence sometime between 2pm and 6pm and had not been seen since. The mother reported her son had wandered off on prior occasions; however, never for that long of a period.

The Sauk County Communications Center reported to officers that a male had been observed on foot somewhere in the area of Sand Road and Hwy 33. The City of Baraboo police K-9 Unit along with the Sauk County Sheriff’s K-9 unit were dispatched to the area. Following an extensive search utilizing both K-9 units, the male was found in a nearby wooded area. Although he was very cold and lost, the male had sustained no injuries.

The K-9 units from both the City of Baraboo (Whelen) and Sauk County (Cooper) proved key to locating this male. The temperature at the time was near 9 degrees and locating the missing male quickly was crucial to the male’s well being.
