Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type: Fraud

Incident Date: 10/06/2012 - 4:29 PM

Address: Mendota Ct.

Victim: Female, age 22, Madison
Victim is a UW-Madison student

Details: A UW-Madison student believes the criminals got her contact information through the Wisconsin School of Business's Business Career Center, where she has her info listed as a possible job seeker. She began receiving emails from "James Noonan" of "ADC Solutions, Inc." in mid-September letting her know that she was being hired as a "store evaluator." The emails transitioned into text messages - sent in broken English - and a voicemail from a man with an Indian accent.

Eventually, the 22-year old was sent a check for $2,550.45. It was made out to her from Winnder Ford Ltd., 591 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, Delaware. She was to deposit the check, and then spend $500 at various stores. Her job was to review services provided. The balance of money was to be sent, via Money Gram, to a "John McFadden" in Dublin, Ireland.

The student checked with staff at the UW's Business School and learned none of what she had been sent meshed with companies with whom her school is associated. Meanwhile, her employer, "James," was escalating his rhetoric as he became increasingly frustrated with his employee not cashing the bogus check. In one text he said: "You are reported to the police and they will be coming for you soon no thanks." The MPD officer, who was responding to the victim’s complaint, told her to let "James" know that she was actually the one contacting authorities and he should cease and desist his contact with her.
