Press Release from the Sun Prairie Police Department:
On October 29, 2012, at 2:11 pm, the Sun Prairie Police Department responded to the report of a theft of a hunting rifle from a vehicle. Reports indicated the owner of the rifle was chasing 3 m/b suspects at the time.
Officers responded to the 400 block area of S. Bird Street, and after a short search, located the rifle in the exterior stairwell of an apartment building.
As a precaution, during the search for the suspects and the rifle, Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School and Prairie Phoenix Academy were placed in "lock down" mode for approximately 15 minutes due to those buildings close proximity to the search area. At no time were any students or faculty in danger.
The suspects have been identified and this case remains under investigation. No further information can be released at this time.
