TOWN OF CLAYTON, Wis. (AP) -- Crawford County authorities are investigating what the sheriff calls an apparent murder-suicide in the Town of Clayton in southwestern Wisconsin.
Sheriff Dale McCullick says it appears a 70-year-old man shot and killed his 68-year-old wife inside their rural home, then went outside and shot himself.
Deputies found the man dead in his driveway about 5:30 p.m. Monday. They found his wife's body in the bedroom.
McCullick says investigators are now trying to determine why it happened.
Autopsies were being performed Tuesday and investigators were looking into the background of the couple, whose names were not immediately released.
The last time deputies were called to the home was in 2008, and the sheriff says it was not a domestic incident.
