Slick roads caused Dodgeville school officials to extend the school day until plows could clear local the streets.

The district usually ends class an hour early on Wednesdays, but early in the day the district was told roads could be unsafe for buses and parents to pick up students.

The Iowa County Sheriff's Department, First Student and Dodgeville School District decided to cancel the early dismissal and keep the kids an extra hour. At the elementary school every parent was contacted, and only a few came to pick up their kids early.

Dodgeville Elementary Principal Julie Piper says it is the first time the district has ever extended the school day.
