JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) -- A memorial service will be held Wednesday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord for a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
The Army said 24-year-old 1st Lt. David A. Johnson, of Horicon, Wis., was killed Jan. 25 by a homemade bomb while on foot patrol in Kandahar province.
His service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the JBLM Lewis North Chapel.
Johnson was assigned to the 3rd Stryker Brigade that deployed to Afghanistan in December.

MAYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Hundreds gathered this weekend to pay their final respects to a 24-year-old Mayville soldier killed in Afghanistan.
First Lt. David Johnson was killed in action Jan. 25. Visitation was Saturday and Sunday at Mayville High School gymnasium.
During a memorial service Sunday, his sister Emily Johnson said he always told her not to worry about him. She said she always looked up to him and he made her life more exciting.
Johnson's combat boots with thick, black soot on the toes sat on a table that also displayed other memorabilia of the soldier.
According to The Reporter in Fond du Lac (http://fondul.ac/yFAPS1 ), the military also presented Johnson's Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals to his father, Andrew Johnson.
Johnson was a 2006 graduate of Mayville High School.

MAYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- The body of a soldier from Mayville will be returned to his hometown Friday where a motorcade procession is planned.
A brief ceremony is expected to take place at American Legion Post 69 for 1st Lt. David Johnson. The 24-year-old soldier was killed in action in Afghanistan on Jan. 25.
Visitation is Saturday and Sunday at Mayville High School. A memorial service begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the high school with military honors at the Veterans Memorial of Mayville.
The Fond du Lac Reporter (http://fondul.ac/xOgv6w ) says Johnson was a 2006 graduate of Mayville High School. He's the second Mayville graduate to die in military service in recent years. Army Spc. David Wendling died in Iraq in 2005.

MAYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- The family of a Wisconsin soldier killed in Afghanistan will travel to Dover Air Force base in Delaware where the body of 1st Lt. David Johnson is due to arrive.
The 24-year-old soldier from Mayville was killed in action Wednesday while serving in Afghanistan. Johnson commanded the Army's 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division.
He was a 2011 graduate of Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., a school his brother Michael attends. Campus pastor John Plake says David was the oldest of four siblings. He had two brothers and a sister.
University spokesman Paul Logsdon says Johnson's family gave the school permission to release news of his death. The U.S. Department of Defense has not confirmed Johnson's death.

His alma mater, Evangel University, said 1st Lt. David Johnson, of Mayville, was killed in action Wednesday. University spokesman Paul Logsdon says Johnson's family gave the school permission to release news of his death. The U.S. Department of Defense has not confirmed Johnson's death.
The university in Springfield, Mo., says the 24-year-old Johnson was a 2010 graduate and was in command of the Army's 3rd Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division. He visited the university last November for a special Veterans Day service.
Campus pastor, John Plake, says Johnson was a well-respected student leader who served as a commander in the school's ROTC program. He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
