UPDATE: Son In Custody For Attacking His Mother

UPDATED Sunday, February 5, 2012 --- 9:46 p.m.

DICKEYVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A 38-year-old Dickeyville man is jailed after he allegedly punched, kicked and cut his mother after getting upset with his stepfather.

The Grant County Sheriff's Department said a driver saw the woman covered in blood Saturday evening near Dickeyville in southwestern Wisconsin. The 67-year-old had multiple head and face lacerations.

The department says Nancy Ernzen told investigators her son was upset with his 67-year-old stepfather and made comments about hurting or possibly killing him.

Authorities believe the son spent two hours physically and verbally abusing his mother as he waited to ambush his stepfather when he came home from church. He allegedly used a shard of glass from a window he broke to cut his mother's forehead. She escaped through a basement door.

Deputies arrested him at a nearby motel.

From the Grant County Sheriff's Department:

The Grant County Deputies responded to a report of a woman covered in blood walking on Hwy. 151 near Dickeyville. A passing motorist came across the woman, stopped, and called 911.

Deputies arrived on scene to discover that Nancy Emzen, age 67 from Dickeyville, had sustained multiple lacerations to her head and face. Nancy was quickly transported by Dickeyville EMS to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque for her injuries.

Through investigations Deputies learned Nancy’s son Todd Woodward, age 38 from Dickeyville, was the offending party. Within a half an hour Todd was located at the Tower Motel in Dickeyville, where he was taken into custody.

Todd had been upset with his step-father, Nicholas Emzen, age 67 from Dickeyville, and had gone to his mother’s residence while Nicholas was at church. Woodward had made comments about hurting or possible killing his step-father. Authorities believe Woodward was at his mother’s house waiting for Nicholas to return to ambush him.

Woodward had kept his mother from leaving the residence and alerting Nicholas or authorities. Woodward was at the residence for approximately two hours. During which time he was verbally and physically abusive to his mother. Nancy was punched, kicked, and struck with a chair. Woodward threw a chair at a window shattering it. Woodward used a shard of glass from the broken window to cut his mother’s forehead. Nancy was eventually able to escape the residence through a basement door. She then ran to Hwy. 151 in an attempt to intercept her husband before the got home.

Nicholas was uninjured in this matter. Nancy was later transported to Iowa City due to her injuries.

Todd Woodward was arrested or charged with false imprisonment, domestic aggravated battery, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property, use of dangerous weapon, six counts of bail jumping (as he was out on bond for a disorderly conduct offense which occurred only two weeks prior).

All Parties are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law.
