Tea party conservatives making waves in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Republicans are gathering next weekend in Milwaukee for their annual convention amid dissent from some conservative tea party members.

The activists have already passed votes of no confidence against two moderate Republicans for their support of Common Core academic standards and back a resolution reaffirming Wisconsin's right to secede from the union.

While Republicans may want the convention that begins May 2 to be a pep rally, conservative activists aren't backing down from their agenda.

Columbia County Republican Danny Krueger says activists like himself are tired of being ignored by party leaders. He says either the party pays attention to them, or they will no longer help get Republicans elected.

Republican leaders have tried to downplay concerns raised by the tea party activists.
