JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Wis. (AP) -- Green County authorities are investigating a head-on crash that killed three adults and seriously injured a 12-year-old boy in southern Wisconsin.
The crash was reported around 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Wisconsin Highway 11/81 about one mile west of County Trunk OK, in the town of Jefferson.
Sheriff's officials say the initial investigation indicates a car driven by 32-year-old Penny L. Sprauge of Juda, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a car driven by 40-year-old Cynthia L. Spooner of Brodhead.
Both drivers died at the scene. Two passengers from Spooner's vehicle, 39-year-old Douglas H. Spooner and 12-year-old Clay Spooner, were helicoptered to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, where the man died. A sheriff's news release says the boy suffered "very serious" injuries.

March 06, 2011: Three killed in Green County Traffic Crash
On Saturday, March 5th, 2011 at 6:24 p.m., the Green County Sheriff's Department was notified of a two vehicle crash with multiple injuries on State Highway 11/81, approximately one mile west of County Trunk OK in Jefferson Township.
Green County deputies, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Juda Fire and First Response, Monroe EMS and Brodhead EMS all responded to the scene.
The initial investigation into the crash indicated that an automobile operated by a 32-year-old Juda woman was eastbound on STH 11/81 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a westbound automobile operated by a 40-year-old rural Brodhead woman.
The driver's of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Green County Corner's office.
Two passengers from the 40-year-old Brodhead woman's vehicle, a 39-year-old male and a 12-year-old male, all members from the same family, were both transported to UW Hospital in Madison by medical helicopters. The Sheriff's Department was later notified that the 39-year-old male had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The 12-year-old remains hospitalized with very serious injuries.
It's unknown if any of the three occupants were wearing safety belts; the 32-year-old Juda woman was wearing a safety belt.
The Wisconsin State Patrol was called to the scene to reconstruct the crash, which remains under investigation.
The identifies of all of the victims are being withheld until their families have been notified. It is anticipated that the victim's names will be released at about noon on Sunday, March 6th, 2011. The victims of this crash were Green County's first, second and third fatalities in 2011.
