VIDEO REPORT: Tim's Travels: Friendship on the Fairway

An annual reunion among some old college friends has transformed into something very special. the buddies get together every July for a golf outing.

Over the weekend, they gathered for their 35th annual trip!

Most of us lose touch with our college friends after a couple years. But not these guys. It all started at UW- Eau Claire in the late 1970's and today these guys are still partying like the good ol' days.

After 35 years...

“I get emotional,” said Doug Schell. “I look forward to this big time,”

These old college buddies are still as close as can be.

“They're brothers, it's amazing,”

Every year, the guys gather for four days of golf all over the Madison area.

“All of these guys got into the same dormitory up at Eau Claire, Bridgman Hall, and a lot of us were all on the same floor,” said Bob Cobb.

They call it the Earth and Rose Invitational.

“Our largest outing was at lake Windsor Country Club and we had 64 guys. It's just been a riot,”

The event is named after Mark Cobb and his brother Bob.

“Well I'm the best!” laughs Bob.

The twins got the nicknames “earth and rose” in high school and Mark organizes the trip every year.

“And it's the same group of guys, it's about 20 guys every year,” said Bob.

They come in from all over the country.

“Philly, Atlanta, Tampa, Seattle,”

Doug Schell grew up in Monona but now lives in southern California.

“I stay in touch year round but I look forward to getting back here every July,”

These guys admit, college was a blast.

“I mean we got really close,” said Bob. “It was the best time ever.”

But even in their late 50's, they still now how to party.

“There's a lot of love here, that's why you come back. We hardly have anyone that missed,” said Mark.

“And it's almost like they look forward to this more than Christmas,” he joked.

Their friendship has stood the test of time, something these guys will cherish forever.

“At the end of the day, it's friends and family that just drive your world and it's just great to be here with my buddies,” added an emotional Schell.
