On The Morning Show on Monday, we featured a very talented, local high school jazz band.
So talented in fact, that they were just one of 15 schools from across the country selected to participate in a very prestigious competition.
It's called “Essentially Ellington” it's in honor the late jazz great Duke Ellington. The competition will be held next month in New York City.
To see just how talented these musicians are, we sent NBC 15 photojournalist and music lover Mark Schilling to listen in.

The three-day “Essentially Ellington” competition begins May 10 in New York City.
They need to raise $25,000 so they're holding a send-off fundraiser concert. It will be Sunday, May 5th at 7:30 at Cardinal Heights Middle School in Sun Prairie.
This is your last chance to see them perform before the competition so make sure you head out there to see them live.
And getting into this competition wasn't easy either. 96 schools applied. 15 got in. Three are from our area. Beloit Memorial Jazz Band and the Lake Geneva Badger Jazz Band will be there as well. Wisconsin will be well represented!
