Tim's Travels: Meet the "Jersey Boys"

A huge Broadway production has come to Madison! Jersey Boys is currently showing at the Overture Center. Earlier this week, Tim Elliott saw down with a several of the actors for a behind the scenes look at the show.

“It's basically a rags to riches story,” said John Gardiner who plays Tommy DeVito.

Madison, meet the Jersey Boys!

“Some guys join the mob, some guys join the army, and some guys were able to write hit music,” said Gardiner.

The hit musical tells the story of the 60's pop group Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

“It's a story of four guys on the road playing music together and we're four guys on the road playing music together,” said Gardiner. “It's like there's much life imitating art in there it's in ridiculous,”.

For these performers, Jersey Boys is a dream come true.

“Any actor in the country, this play is on their shortlist, I mean this is just this one of the best musicals of all time,”

It's a show oozing with talent.

“Singing, dancing and acting,” said Nick Cosgrove. “And a lot of guys on the set have to be quadruple threats which means those three and they also place instruments live,” added Gardiner.

“There is nothing precoded on this show everything you see is live on the stage,”

The Jersey boys say they rarely get a rest. After dozen so shows here in Madison they get a two-day rest then it's on to Cincinnati, Ohio for another round of shows.

“You come into a new city and it's a new energy, it's a new theater and it's really kind of re-invigorating so we're excited,” said Miles Jacoby.

The guys say this musical appeals to just about everybody.

:”This is one of the few shows out there that guys like,” said Gardiner. “We jokingly say that this is the show that husbands drag their wives to. It's an old school rock concert, they're mixed up with the mob, there's fighting,”

As they boys check out Madison.

“I can't wait to go exploring, I've been told State Street I've been told we need to eat some mac n cheese pizza,” said Gardiner.

They invite you to come see them and say you won't be disappointed.

“I guarantee you that you will have a good time. I dare someone to come to this show and not like it,”
