A local woman is the proud owner of a new car that's pretty rare on the road. it's called the Tesla Model S and it's quite the head-turner..

Buckle up because we are taking a ride in today's Tim's Travels!

The roar of an engine is powerful and loud. But today we're quieting things down and going green.

“It's nice and quiet,” said owner Diane Heatley. “It's all good for the world,”

This is the Tesla Model S. It's 100 percent electric with more than 350 horsepower.

“My friends and neighbors think I'm a little bit weird,” laughed Heatley

“It's way better than any car I've had in the past, way better!”

She actually bought the car three years ago, before it was even built.

“I bought an idea, I was an early investor,”

Now this idea has finally come to life.

“So this is the first one delivered in Wisconsin,” said Diane. “I like that it is super quiet and I feel like i am being good the environment but it's also super fun to drive because it goes fast!”

7,000 of these little batteries power the Tesla.

“The nice thing about the Tesla is the battery is good for 300 miles,”

You plug your car in to a dryer outlet and let it charge overnight.

“But a full charge, to go from 0 to 300 miles it costs $4 worth of electricity,”

And a cool touch screen that controls pretty much everything in the car.

“So really Tesla didn't set out to build the best electric car, they set out to build the world's best car,”

The car may be quiet but Diane's stance on going green is loud and clear.

“It makes me feel good about the environment and I think it's the future,”

The Tesla Model S starts at around $80,000 and can run more than $100,000. The company is based in Palo Alto, California.
