A year ago, a local photographer took on a unique project after being challenged by a few friends. The task: take a picture everyday for year of a massive Oak tree near Platteville. 365 days later, the project is complete.
“364 days of this project it was pretty just me out here,”
But on day 365, photographer Mark Hirsch and this old Oak tree finally have some company.
“We came down because I've known Mark since high school,” said Patti Joyce.
Hundreds showed up last Saturday to celebrate the completion of the project he calls “That Tree”.
“Here I am, a year later and I've reached an incredile miletsone that I never imagined,”
We first introduced you to Mark back in November on day 233.
“Man, I wish that sun would break out again” he said as he tried to get the perfect shot.
At first, Mark worried his project would get stale after a while.
“There were days along the way where I was talking to myself in my head saying, oh my gosh what have I gotten myself into?”
But after seeing his shots, it's evident that his creativity flourished.
“I think it's just beautiful that's all,” said Joyce. “I think he did just a fabulous job taking the picutres so that was very cool,”
It's even on Facebook. With more than 5,000 “likes” That Tree has gone global.
“I received a package from a woman in Kildare, Ireland,” said Mark. “It's incredible that this project has touched people all around the world,”
“I think it was a good message for us to sort of slow down and notice the ordinary and appreacite stuff around us,” added Joyce.
That Tree may be all alone in a big empty farm field...
“Alright everybody, here we go!” Mark yells as he tries to organize his friends.
But for picture number 365, Mark wanted to surround That Tree with love and support.
“It's incredible,” said Mark “ I would say I'm definiltey a changed guy as a result of spending a year photographing a tree,”
“LIKE” That Tree on Facebook! Mark has a book in the works for his project. It will be filled with the pictures he's taken over the past year.
