PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) -- A train hit a 16-year-old boy wearing headphones in Kenosha County.

It happened at about 7:10 a.m. Friday as the boy was walking on Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks just south of State Highway 50 in Pleasant Prairie.

In a news release, police said the train's emergency brakes were activated and a horn was sounded repeatedly but it appeared the teen was unable to hear the warning signals.

Police Sgt. Scott Durkee said Saturday he had been listening to headphones.

The teen had been conscious and alert when rescue personnel arrived and he was initially taken to a local hospital. He was later taken by helicopter to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.

Durkee did not have a condition update Saturday. The teen's name hasn't yet been released.
