It's been a day of cleaning up at the Bishop's.

"We didn't hear anything crack, we didn't hear anything hit the roof," Patti Bishop said.

Still -- when she went outside the day after the storm, she noticed something she knew was red flag.

"I was looking up in the trees, and I could see daylight creeping through the limb," she said.

She knew it was bad news, so the first thing she did was call Barnes landscaping to come check it out.

"They thought the could today, and their word is good; they were out today and now I feel a whole lot safer," Bishop explained.

Calling for help is something Sean Gere, an arborist who's been cleaning storm aftermath for 21 years, says is the right choice.

"If the tree is actually cracked, I would definitely call."

Even a small cracked branch can be dangerous.

"Obviously it could fall on someone, something... I've seen crushed cars, all sorts of things," Gere explained.

There are warning signs anyone can detect, according to Gere, like movement in the soil or girdling roots.

"Understanding how a tree grows is really important," Gere said, saying that an " arborist can certainly help you with that".

That way gardeners like Patti Bishop can enjoy their yard the way they love too -- without any risk of falling branches.
