Tuesday Morning Wisconsin News Headlines

Posted Tuesday, October 23, 2012 --- 8:05 a.m.

Here is the latest Wisconsin news from The Associated Press:

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The rate of vehicles failing Wisconsin's emission tests is down slightly so far this year. New figures released to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel show the fail rate from July through September is five-and-a-half percent, which is down nearly one percentage point when compared to last year. Systech International says it initially over-reported the fail rates from July because it included vehicles that couldn't be tested.

BROOKFIELD, Wis. (AP) -- The three employees of a Brookfield salon who were killed by one of the victims' estranged husband are being remembered as hard workers and dedicated mothers. Thirty-five-year-old Cary Robuck of Racine, 38-year-old Maelyn Lind of Oconomowoc and Zina Haughton were killed Sunday at Azana Day Spa. They were shot to death by Haughton's estranged husband, Radcliffe Haughton, who later killed himself.

ORANGE CITY, Iowa (AP) -- A Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a series of burglaries in northwest Iowa. Forty-nine-year-old Daniel DeTaege of Appleton, Wis., was sentenced yesterday after pleading guilty. Prosecutors say police arrested DeTaege inside a business in Sioux County, Iowa, in July.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Dairy farmers in Wisconsin had a good month in September. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Wisconsin dairy farmers harvested 2.2 billion pounds last month. That's a three percent improvement over the September 2011 yield.
