Posted: Sunday, November 11, 2012 -- 6:48 a.m.

Information from the Janesville Police Department:

On 11-11-2012 at 2:23 a.m. the Janesville Police Department investigated a single vehicle injury accident on the Milwaukee Street Bridge. The operator of the vehicle was arrested on a charge of OWI causing injury. The operator and a passenger were transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center by ambulance for treatment of injuries. A second passenger was arrested on a probation violation and transported to the Rock County Jail.

Based on a witness statement and observations at the accident scene, the operator identified as Veronica Walker, age 25, of Janesville was travelling at a high rate of speed west on W. Milwaukee St. when the vehicle she was operating jumped the south side curb, entered the sidewalk, and struck the bridge railing causing severe damage to the vehicle and bridge railing. The vehicle then spun around, struck the railing with the rear portion of the vehicle and came to rest facing in a northbound direction on the sidewalk just east of the Riverfront Athletic Club.

The City of Janesville Street Department was dispatched to the scene to secure approximately 30 feet of bridge railing. Estimates were not available for repair and replacement of the cement railing.
