At approximately 12:41p.m. on Saturday, Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with McFarland EMS, Stoughton EMS and the McFarland Fire Department were dispatched to the intersection of USH 51 at Exchange Street, in the Town of Dunn, for a three-car motor vehicle crash with injuries.
Jessica R. Copus, age 28, of Stoughton, was operating a Ford Escort and was traveling southbound on USH 51, when she struck the rear of a Volkswagen Beetle, which was stopped southbound on USH 51, attempting to turn onto Exchange Street. As a result of the impact, the Escort entered the northbound lane of USH 51 and was struck by a Ford SUV, which was traveling northbound on USH 51.
Copus sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was transported to U.W. Hospital by Med-Flight. The driver of the Volkswagen Beetle, Janet C. Moore, age 45 of McFarland, sustained minor injuries and was transported to UW Hospital by Stoughton EMS. The driver of the Ford SUV, Andrew J. McLain, age 31, of McFarland, did not sustain any injuries.
Copus was cited for Inattentive Driving as a result of the crash. The area of USH 51 at Exchange Street was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was being investigated.
