UPDATE: Man Dies After Sun Prairie Crash; Driver Arrested

UPDATED: Thursday, August 23, 2012 --- 4:50p.m.

Release from Dane County Medical Examiner:

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office is releasing the name of the male involved in the Town of Sun Prairie traffic crash on 08-21-12. The crash occurred on CTH N near Bailey Road shortly after 12:30AM. The male is identified as:

Mr. Dunleavy was a passenger in a vehicle which was struck from behind in the traffic crash. Mr. Dunleavy died at a Madison Hospital on the afternoon of 08-21-12. A forensic autopsy took place late today at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results confirm that Mr. Dunleavy died from the injuries he sustained in the traffic crash.

This case remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

From the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

August 22, 2012 – Dane County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested the at-fault driver in the town of Sun Prairie crash for Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury. Lawren E. Prisk, age 43 of Madison, was operating the 2007 Pontiac Roadster that rear-ended a 2009 Volkswagen Beetle on CTH N. Prisk currently remains hospitalized, but will be booked into the Dane County Jail upon his release.

The 20-year-old male passenger in the Volkswagen has been pronounced dead at UW Hospital. The driver, Jamie N. Lauter, age 24 of Sun Prairie, remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

In addition to alcohol, excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash. This incident remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and is being handled by the specialized team funded through the critical traffic investigation and prosecution grant.

From the Dane County Sheriff's Office:

At approximately 12:36 a.m., the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Sun Prairie Police Department, Sun Prairie Fire Department, Sun Prairie Paramedics, Deer-Grove EMS, and Marshall EMS responded to a two-vehicle rear-end crash on CTH N approximately one tenth of a mile north of Bailey Rd.

A 2009 Volkswagen Bug was rear-ended by a 2007 Pontiac Roadster. Both vehicles were travelling north on CTH N.

The female driver, age 24, of Sun Prairie, was transported to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A male passenger, of the Volkswagen, age 20, of Madison, was transported to UW Hospital with life threatening injuries.

The male driver, age 43, of Madison, driving the Pontiac, was taken to UW Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies are reconstructing the crash scene. CTH N will remain closed from Grove St., in the City of Sun Prairie, to Bailey Rd., in the Township of Sun Prairie until approximately 7:00 a.m. Motorist’s should bypass this area using STH 19 to Town Hall Rd. or Bailey Rd. to South Bird St.

The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol and speed are contributing factors. This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.
