From the Green County Sheriff's Department:

At approximately 5:21 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012, the Green County Sheriff's Department communication center received reports of a two vehicle crash, located on State Highway 11/81 approximately 1/2 mile east of Bagley Rd. in Spring Grove Township, east of Juda. Deputies, Juda Fire and First Response and Monroe EMS all responded to the scene.

Investigation into the crash revealed that a full size automobile operated by a Walworth County man was eastbound on State Highway 11/81 in the westbound lane. The automobile crashed head-on into a westbound Chevrolet pickup truck operated by Israel Lara, age 37 of Monroe.

Lara was pronounced dead at the scene by a Green County Deputy Coroner.

The Walworth County man was transported to The Monroe Clinic Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

There were no passengers in either vehicle and both vehicles sustained extensive damage. Both were traveling at or near highway speeds when the collision occurred, alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor and it is unknown at this time why the automobile was traveling in the wrong lane. It is anticipated that the Walworth County man's identity will be released Saturday afternoon after family has been notified.

Brodhead Police and Juda Fire Department personnel diverted traffic while State Highway 11/81 was closed for about 2 1/2 hrs. while deputies conducted the crash investigation.

This is Green County's first and second traffic fatalities of 2012.
