Madison, WI. January 10, 2012 – Intoxicated drivers kept Dane County Sheriff’s deputies busy overnight.

John L. Randle was arrested for his 4th offense of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) after a deputy conducted a traffic stop on East Washington Avenue near East Springs Drive just after midnight. Randle, age 38 of Sun Prairie, was also cited for Failure to Install an Ignition Interlock Device, Failure to Stop at a Red Light, Operating After Revocation and No Insurance. He is currently being held in the Dane County Jail on the felony OWI.

At approximately 2:00 am, a Dane County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a pursuit on CTH BB in the town of Deerfield. An intoxicated driver traveling eastbound attempted to elude the deputy for approximately 3.8 miles. Justin S. Koller, age 25 of Lake Mills, tried to evade the deputy attempting to pull him over by extinguishing his headlights and speeding away, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph. Additional Dane County deputies along with the WI State Patrol and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to assist, but Koller voluntarily stopped and was taken into custody. He was arrested for Eluding and OWI-1st Offense. He was booked into the Dane County Jail on the felony eluding charge. Koller’s 22-year-old brother, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was released from the scene.

Dane County experienced 38 traffic fatalities during 2011, an increase from the 35 fatalities in 2010. Because statistics continually show that alcohol is one of the three main factors associated with fatal and serious injury crashes, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office will continue to make traffic safety a priority in 2012.
