VIDEO REPORT: UW-Madison Uses Video To Keep Students Safe

Posted Sunday, October 7, 2012 --- 6:00 p.m.

The University of Wisconsin has launched a new imitative to prevent sexual assaults on campus. It's an interactive online program called "Tonight".

The innovative program, accessible to the public on the University Health Services Website at http://www.uhs.wisc.edu/tonight, takes students through different vignettes in order to help them identify red flags for potential sexual assault and dating violence scenarios they may encounter on campus.

"Tonight" uses a new approach usually not common in sexual assualt prevention videos.

"The Tonight video is saying wait a minute, lets look and see what perpetrators are doing and lets look and see what bystanders are doing and can be doing to stop this,"said Executive Director of the Office of Crime Victim Services, Jill Karofski.

Some freshmen have not seen the video yet, but say it's something they plan to watch soon.

"A lot of freshman don't know what to do, they've never been exposed to such large area as this campus, so its a good idea to know how to be safe on campus," said UW freshmen, Amanda Beltrame.
