Unions Seek Veto Pledge Over Bargaining Rights

Posted Wednesday, February 8, 2012 --- 3:48 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin union leaders are asking Democratic candidates for governor to pledge that they will veto the next state budget if it doesn't restore collective bargaining rights for public workers.

The limitation of those rights is largely what motivated the petition drive to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday that Democratic candidate Kathleen Falk has agreed to the veto promise. The other announced Democratic candidate, Kathleen Vinehout, says she would work to avoid the threat of a veto to restore bargaining rights.

Both houses of the Legislature are currently controlled by Republicans. The promise of a budget veto from a Democratic governor could be one way to force a compromise on the collective bargaining issue.

But I went to work everyday even when i was sick, and was never late or anything but I get laid off while a guy thats been there 20 years who always took off (even if he just had a headache) and was basically late everyday gets to stay there cause he worked there longer...i will say it agian unions are a disgrace to all working americans

Let's keep in mind that it's not collective bargaining RIGHTS; it's PRIVILEGES. Unions for public employees has to end -- take a look at a country called GREECE.

Umm the difference is that I can choose to be in a union and they represent my best interests with my money rather than those who make a profit off all of us?!

That is the way unions work give us what we want or you get nothing. The only union product I buy is toilet paper.

Real nice, do what we say or else. Public unions are the new organized crime. And here I thought extortion was illegal...silly me.

Example of the Unions trying to buy the election. If the candidates dont agree to the veto pledge, the unions wont give money to support them during the race. This sort of behavior is exactly why it is important to limit the union power in this state. A union leader SHOULDNT be able to blackmail the leader (potential or actual) of our state.

I see people complain all the time how Republicans are puppets of big business. Democrats are getting their strings pulled by unions. What's the difference? Democrats cant complain about Republicans when they do the same exact thing, and vice versa.
