Waunakee Man Dies of Heart Attack While Hunting in Iowa Co.

Press Release from the Iowa County Sheriff's Office:

On Monday, November 19, 2012 at 10:04 a.m., the Iowa County Sheriff's Office was notified of a deer hunter down in a field, located off of CTH T, in the town of Brigham.

Preliminary investigation shows that the deer hunter, identified as Fred R. Laufenberg, 58yoa from Waunakee, had walked with his son approximately 3/4th of a mile off of the roadway, when Mr. Laufenberg collapsed. Arriving EMS personnel began CPR at the scene, and Med Flight was summoned to the scene, at which time Mr. Laufenberg was pronounced dead by the attending physician.

An Autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, November 20, 2012 by Iowa County Deputy Coroner Virginia Eisele. The preliminary cause of death is believed to have been a cardiac arrest

The incident remains under investigation by the Dept. of Natural Resources and the Iowa Co. Coroner's Office.
