It's taken close to two years to complete, but now the west wing of the Memorial Union is in its final stage of construction. The Memorial Union Terrace is home to beautiful views, live entertainment, and sometimes even a love connection. We asked, "what do you love most about the Terrace?" Jill Yeck responded, "I met him here on a blind date. It's true!"
Soon there will be even more to enjoy at the popular meeting spot for both the young and old and everyone in between, making sure to keep some of the character from before, and incorporating new options for guests. "The performance base called Shannon Hall, that's all been totally renovated, all the spaces have been renovated. We have new wheelhouse studios which is the old mini courses and the craft studios combined, we have outdoor UW which is Hoofers and outdoor programs and outdoor rentals. and anyone can take advantage of those spaces as well," said Communications Director, Marc Kennedy.
The west wing will be more accessible for everyone, helping show the beauty that is Madison from every level. Kennedy added, "particularly on the west wing, there were 27 different levels, and if you were on crutches or in a wheelchair, to negotiate those spaces was almost impossible." Keeping the uniqueness alive, while welcoming even more to enjoy this Madison staple. "There's not many places like this that have a beautiful setting, a place where the community really gathers and just has fun and enjoys life," said Yeck.
Since the west wing is just about completed, a new project at the Memorial Union Terrace is set to begin next summer, The Alumni Park is expected to be completed by summer of 2017. The big unveil of the west wing will take place September 12th and 13th, when it's host to the Madison World Music Festival.
