Wis. Election Head Disagrees with Romney

Posted Thursday, October 4, 2012 --- 10:57 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin's election chief tells Mitt Romney's campaign that he will not seek a court order to extend the deadline for military and overseas voters to return their ballots.

Romney's campaign on Monday asked the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board to extend it after some ballots were mailed passed the Sept. 22 deadline.

Wisconsin elections chief Kevin Kennedy says in a response letter made public Thursday that 37 ballots were affected and all have been transmitted to voters in time for them to be completed, returned and counted.

Kennedy says the state has been working with the U.S. Justice Department on the issue.

Romney's campaign raised similar complaints in Vermont, Mississippi and Michigan.

Romney spokesman Ryan Williams says the campaign is still considering taking legal action against Wisconsin over the issue.
