TOWN OF BYRON, Wis. (AP) -- Community members in Fond du Lac County are coming together to help a family whose house was destroyed by a Christmas Eve fire.
The Reporter Media reports it was also the same day the family's son returned home from serving in Afghanistan.
The Dec. 24 fire destroyed the Town of Byron house owned by Don Hannemann but spared the shop from which he operates H-D Welding and a trucking company.
Since then supporters have been at the property splitting wood to help heat his business and keep it going.
A tattoo shop owner is collecting household items and gift cards for them. Another friend has set up a bank account for donations.
Don Hannemann says he has insurance and plans to rebuild. The fire's cause remains under investigation.
